Yes, you read that right. There are many websites that have one version or another of this “game”. The way you play the 15 minute game is you set a timer for 15 minutes and clean as much as you can until the timer beeps. I go one step further and post just how much I’ve accomplished on facebook or or privately with a couple of friends for a little competition This helps boost me even more as I all want to be the one who has cleaned the most.
To give an example, I played the 15 minute game a few times yesterday. Here is my list of what I cleaned:
- First 15 min: found a missing toy to appease the crying toddler and then tidied up the toys in his room. (not a lot done, but yay for small victories!)
- Next 15 min: unloaded/reloaded dishwasher, organized tupperware area (again doesn’t seem like much… yet)
- Another 15 minutes: tidied family room, cleaned out pots and pans and small appliances cabinets (now we are getting somewhere!)
- Last 15 minutes: tidied living and dining room, sorted laundry, another unload/reload of dishes.
So in 1 hour yesterday, I tackled my bigger projects (cabinet clean-out) and tidied the common areas of the house. I got to relax with a glass of wine at the end of the day, not feeling stressed about the housework.
Do you do the 15 minute cleaning game?
